Beautiful and delicious purple-red leaves on this variety of Greek Amaranth that comes from our ancestral island of Karpathos where it is known as "Vleeta.." Pick the young leaves when the plant reaches 6-12 inches tall, steam and eat with lemon juice and olive oil. Plants can be harvested multiple times before going to flower. If left to grow the plants that can reach 9 feet tall and produce a stunning and glorious crimson flower. Our favorite type of greens and a very special and unique plant.
PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS:
In spring, after the danger of frost:
Plant seeds 1/8 inch depth in full sun, this to 3-5 inches apart . Harvest the greenish-purple leaves when plant is 6-12 inches tall and steam like spinach. Mature plant can reach 9 feet in height with a large and glorious crimson red flower that produces a large quantity of seeds/grain.
